The William M. Bass-Hugh Berryman Legends in Forensic Science Lectureship Presents
Deep Sea Forensics and the Recovery of the USS Monitor’s Lost Sailors

In 2002, Dr. Emery assisted with recovering the skeletons of two US sailors found within the revolving gun turret of the USS Monitor, the Civil War ironclad that famously battled the CSS Merrimack in March 1862.
Since 2017, Dr. Emery has managed the Safety Research Division in the Office of Research and Engineering at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). His division is responsible for developing studies and interventions focused on reducing accidents and injury severity.
Please join us for the William M. Bass-Hugh Berryman Legends in Forensic Science Lectureship on Wednesday, October 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the MTSU Student Union Ballroom. Forensic Anthropologist and underwater archaeologist Dr. Eric Emery will present on the historical background of the USS Monitor’s famous duel with the CSS Merrimack, as well as the engineering and forensic aspects of the recovery of the gun turret and crewmembers’ remains. His lecture is free and open to the public and no tickets are necessary.
