Forensic Institute for Research and Education at MTSU
Welcome to the Forensic Institute for Research and Education at MTSU
Welcome to the Forensic Institute for Research and Education (FIRE) website. FIRE has the overarching responsibility to facilitate the integration of education, research, and community service in forensic science through partnerships and public engagement.
Forensic science, at the most basic level, is the application of science to matters of legal significance–fingerprints, toxicology, ballistics, DNA, skeletal analysis–any area of science that can assist the legal system in resolving a case or controversy.
Recent advances in forensic science have revolutionized crime fighting and the search for justice. FIRE’s goal is to promote these advances in a directed and coordinated manner by sponsoring research and encouraging the dissemination of the results through teaching and community outreach.
